MUSIC OF THE WEEK | BETH DITTO

Being a use Gossip fan, I was naturally compelled to listen to Gossip frontwoman Beth Ditto's new solo stuff. Now, as much as I love the rad electronic punk beats of the Gossip, I have to say this appeals a whole lot more to me. If you didn't know already, Beth Ditto was featured in Simian Mobile Disco's "Temporary Pleasure" album on one of the albums greatest songs, "Cruel Intentions." The song is made of simple, yet complex beats with Ditto's characteristically sensual voice. If you're a fan of this song then you will definitely be a fan of Ditto's solo stuff. The beats are simple, pumping to a more electronic sound than the latter punk rock noise of her band. Ditto's voice is amazing for this type of music and even more so than - dare i say? - what she's done for Gossip, in my opinion. Her voice brings a sensual quality that accentuates the overall sexual feel of the music. My favorite song off her new EP is definitely "Good Night, Good Morning." The song just exudes sexuality with lyrics like: I may be by myself some times, but I won't be by myself tonight.

The video featured in this post is also from her new EP. The song is also sensual with a flare of daring come-at-me-if-you-can attitude. If you've ever seen Madonna's "Justify my Love" video you'll notice some similarities to Ditto's latest. Yes, the video is a tribute to Madonna, something that has been a popping trend lately - queue Lady Gaga's "Born This Way." Unlike Gaga, however, Ditto makes her inspiration clear and more than copy such, acknowledges and reveres established Queen of Pop. You can find more information about Beth Ditto's solo stuff here.

TWO ROADS TO COURAGE

I saw this a while ago and couldn't help but think how amazing it was. With all these new random fashion x everything else collabs, I was excited to know who the designer was and where I could get myself one of these. With further inspection, however, I discovered - for both my shock and dismay - that this incredible piece was not made by a designer or any sort of brand whatsoever. The suitcase, which features the "two roads to courage" (a bottle of bourbon and some brass knuckles), was actually made as a gift for a friend. You can read more and fantasize about it here.

God, don't you wish you had amazing friends who could actually make this?

NEWS: BLOG UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT

OK, not really under new management but definitely under a new creative twist. I've felt that this blog was monotonous, resembling many other blogs out there. Its easy to find editorials and pictures online now-a-days; God bless Google. What is not easy, however, is to get into my mind. I've realized that I've been wasting a lot of my time doing nothing, so its time to put it into good use. I will be making this blog a little bit more personal with my own designs and artwork as well as things I find interesting while browsing through cyber space. This blog will also feature fashion related news, such as editorials, videos, and runway shots. The new name of the blog, Softcore Pornography derives from the ultimate rule that sex sells. I hope you enjoy what will be popping up in the future. Don't forget to browse through past entries, as you may find something you might like.
