FASHION AND BEAUTY: JIL SANDER

The Fall Winter 2012 Jil Sander collection was without a doubt one of their best in years. The show, however, left spectators with a bittersweet taste. Not only was the collection one of the strongest contendors in Milan, but it was also designer Raf Simons’ last. Simons, who had been creative director of the Jil Sander brand for seven years, presented his collection to the world, leaving tears in the eyes of most people present.

The collection presented was beautiful with the designers intelligence and passion put behind it. Seeming 1950s, 60s style has significant influence in this collection but the fabric selection gives it a modern and contemporary look. The color story of fall/winter collection contains loads of wonderful pastel colors, pink, beige, and sky blue. which are normally associated with spring, however, these pastel colors are usually pair with a essence color such as white, camel and black. Silver and red are used minimally.

This collection is all about wonderful contrast and balance. The contrast color lining of the coat is just a elegant match! The overall silhouettes are big and voluminous coats with fitted, body conscious dresses underneath. One thing that we noticed is the interesting concept of the seamless dresses. Models did their catwalk in a retro and gracious gesture by holding their coat closed at their chest.

Excluding a few piece were tied at the waist. The majority of coats were made of a techy and glossy looking fabric–perhaps neoprene. There is no patterns being corporated, this collection is about clever construction, Simons added a few geometric shapes by using seaming and straps to highlight the dresses. An interesting fabric that is being used of a black dress is PVC. The super glossy and shining black actually looks a bit like big trash bags, but it is definitely a fun mix of the collection.

Beauty trends of this collection appearing as refreshing and an every day look! All the models are wearing the same hairdo. It's a simple yet elegant and professional look. Front Hair neatly parted to the side with a long pony tail at the back that you can't see when looking from the front. It's a fast and easy hairstyle that every girl can do, it's perfect for when in a rush to work or school! The makeup is cohesive with the hair, it's very minimal. Every single model has perfect skin, blushes on cheeks are not being seen here. Mascara is used lightly. Description of this look is natural brows with a fresh-face, and spiced up with pinkish red matte lips.

The minimal make up with red lips speaks with the collection and the brand image. Jil sander is known for its sophistication and elegance. The collection is very colorful and feminine so the minimal makeup is indeed a very wise match, because it makes the model looks gorgeous but it's not distracting at all to drift the attention away from the beautiful clothes.

The big coats for fall is absolutely trend-setting. I think the pastel color will be a trend as well, aren't we all tired of seeing or wearing only black and dark colors during fall and winter? And I'm highly positive of seeing the basic makeup and red lips this fall! It's a effortless look that looks good with everything! why not have an extra hour for bed and still walk out the door shining like a star!

CIRCLING DOWN THE FASHION DRAIN: PARIS HILTON

In today's society, it is very easy to get famous. Post a video on youtube, run naked down a football field or just do anything that will catch the attention of media eye. It is also very easy to get sucked into the fame drain. This is when fame takes control of a person's life and takes them down a road of self-destruction and ultimate oblivion. There has been many famous people who have been caught in this scenario, turning the spotlight into a dark scene. They often find themselves in a position where they can't handle the pressures of "celebrities" and seclude themselves into alternate realities through alcohol, drugs and other abusive behaviors.

There’s people in this world who are famous for their talent, for their personal abilities, or for their dedication and contributions to a community or area of work. Then, there’s people like Paris Hilton who are famous for pretty much just being famous. Paris Hilton has never been a stranger to the glamorous life of the rich and fabulous. As the heiress of the Hilton Hotel Empire, Paris has constantly been surrounded by fame. It wasn’t until early 2000’s when Hilton made her big splash in that one infamous sex tape she almost made us forget about. The movie, titled “One Night in Paris” – rightfully so - became a hit sensation, creating a buzz that spread like wildfire in the media. The phrase “No publicity is bad publicity” has never been so true. Not only was Paris becoming a staple name, but this was just the start of what would soon be her fifteen minutes of fame.

Hilton’s biggest break-through in the industry was the very popular show, “The Simple Life.” In the show, Paris was accompanied with partner-in-crime and best-friend-at-the-time, Nicole Richie. The show portrayed two rich girls as they struggled with rudimentary, mundane jobs all over the United States. Even though the show was a complete success, it was short-lived as the relationship between both co-stars became estranged. This was the highlight of her career and the setting for her wildest moments. The socialite was constantly pictured partying, often acting inappropriately and in very compromising behavior. This got the attention of not only the media, but of an entire generation of followers.

During the next few years, Paris scored numerous profitable deals including a fashion line, a range of perfumes, and even an album. “Paris” was a success, creating hit singles like “Stars are Blind” and “Nothing in the World.” Although the record never got any awards, it still created a profit good enough for the likes of Paris Hilton. After the album, the heiress became a hotter mess, constantly being in media fights with other celebrities, like Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears. The socialite’s behavior got out of control, landing her in jail. The trail, imprisoning and releasing was extensively covered in the media. Hilton had gone too far and now she had to pay.

In the late 2000’s, Paris made a semi-successful comeback with a new reality TV series titled “Paris Hilton’s My New BFF.” Soon after, Hilton’s star began to fade into oblivion. This wasn’t all over for Paris, though. She soon released spin-off versions of her reality show in both England and Dubai.

It has been a few years in which Paris has been a trending topic. Her latest show in 2010, “Life According to Paris” had low ratings and was axed after a single season. Many of the interviews in which she tried to promote the show ended in embarrassing questions that angered the socialite and created widespread confusion and overall disinterest from the public. It is safe to say that Paris Hilton has been a person that circled the fame drain for too long and was sucked by it. Not only is she rarely remembered, but it is often in a bad light. The reputation she created for herself as an uninhibited teen socialite precedes her into heir adult career. What was her shot to fame then is her demise now as she admits that doing that sex tape was the biggest mistake of her life.

It is uncertain if Paris Hilton will ever have the rising flame she once held. When at the peak of her career, the teen heiress became the face of a generation. She created trends that ranged from crazy to insane and managed to have a steady group of fans and followers. We saw her party into the wee hours of the night and we even saw her going in and out of jail. She was on our tv, our commercials, our magazines and shockingly enough, also on our bookstores. The price of fame is very high and she paid. Her habits led her into bad decisions and ultimately into the back of our minds. Now it seems as if the only way she is mentioned is when people ask “Do you remember Paris Hilton?” The biggest trend-setter of fads has become a fad herself.

FASHION: EXPERTS VS POSERS

The world of fashion is a network of people who promote consumerism, dictate and develop trends and educate the public on how to successfully apply beauty and other fashion goods into their lifestyles. The industry is led by it’s experts, who are knowledgeable in both the art of personal style as well as in the business of marketing. Like with any other thing, the fashion world has it’s posers, who intend to follow trends, but fail, turning chic into passé.

A fashion expert is someone who knows the concept of fashion from head to toe. These people are trend-setters, nitpicking what they have seen on the runway and applying several styles into a wardrobe that is personal and unique. Experts are fashion-forward and edgy and are conscious of what they wear. They are on board with the newest trends, often being the ones who set them themselves. Fashion experts are the people who the general public looks up to because they are on-point with the latest styles and give information on how to mix and match the trends that are revolutionizing the fashion world.

A fashion poser, on the other hand, is someone who tries to grasp the concept of fashion but often has the erroneous idea. A poser is a complete follower. This person has no sense of personal style, so he or she copies the style of the experts. Fashion posers tend to try too hard, making trends often fall into forgotten fads. As blind followers, posers completely obliterate the meaning of personal style. They will wear whatever is dictated to them without being able to have successful self-expression.

The idea of experts and posers is a trivial case in the fashion industry. Some people might consider a poser to be over-the-top with unusual wardrobe choices. This, however, is a concept that can go both ways. One of the biggest fashion posers in the public eye today is a man known as Bobby Trendy. Trendy came into the spotlight, making guest appearances in the “Anna Nicole Smith” show broadcasted on the E! Channel. His guest appearances become frequent, earning him a spot both as a cast member of the show as well as in the Anna Nicole posse. Now-a-days Trendy refers to himself as a tv personality. Even though he has no longer appeared in a show - or done anything else for that matter - he still manages to attend red carpet events where he is often photographed with celebrities. Trendy seems to be becoming a paparazzi favorite, as he is regularly photographed in crazy, overly-processed outfits.

So what makes Bobby Trendy a poser? Well first of all, what kind of name is that? With a name like “trendy,” you don’t even need to look at the person to know that their senses are completely delusional. Trendy is not only a poser, but he is what the industry refers to as a “leech.” He tends to associate himself with celebrities for personal gain and public recognition. Although Trendy seems to have knowledge on current trends, his “style” is completely over-the-top with no limitations whatsoever. This is a case in which what can be overlooked as personal style is nothing more than a cheap, over-thought copy of other people’s styles. Trendy fails completely in mix-and-matching, accessorizing and even proper composure. His main focus is to draw attention to himself and shock other people while doing so. There is a total lack of sophistication in his wardrobe which is desperately needed.

Now lets look at the other side of the crazy spectrum. Like we previously said, doing over-the-top is not being a poser. The perfect example for this is the Editor-at-Large and Creative Consultant for Vogue Nippon, Anna Dello Russo. Dello Russo is one of the most respected and recognized faces in the fashion industry. She has managed to create a name for herself with ideas that have revolutionized the magazine industry. Dello Russo is often featured in magazines as well as fashion blogs because of her creative and innovative personal style. Unlike many other Vogue editors, she takes serious risks that may often be considered borderline insane. Although some of the things she wears might be too young for her and some others may just look too funky, she is able to have a style that is completely her own. This is why she is one of fashion’s most beloved experts, setting trends left and right.

Dello Russo is so great at running an international magazine, so it is only natural that her expertise is properly in accordance with her wardrobe. She is what we would like to call a conscious risk-taker. She is well aware of what to wear and how to make it work. Dello Russo is great at the art of mix-and-matching, but she is probably best at accessorizing. There is no one out there that is better in making over-the-top accessories work as well as she does. Her contributions to the industry go beyond the Japanese version of Vogue; whether she does consciously or not, Anna dictates trends and every time she walks outside of her house.

Its funny to see how two very crazy dressers can be on opposite ends of the fashion industry. While Anna is very successful in making wardrobe choices, Bobby Trendy just fails so miserably at it. Our advice to Mr. Trendy is to stay as crazy as he is, but to add a bit of class to it. He should look at what Ms. Dello Russo is wearing and learn a thing or two from her.
